Leo P. Semes, O.D.


Dr. Semes received his doctorate from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO). He served a 1-year fellowship in primary care at the Eye Institute of PCO, and then joined the faculty at The University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry.


Dr. Semes is associate professor and director of continuing education at UAB. He's a three-time recipient of the AOSA's Excellence in Teaching award and received the UAB President's award for teaching excellence. Dr. Semes has written scientific papers. posters and articles. In addition, he has contributed to the optometric literature through numerous book chapters. Most recently, he was named to 2000 Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century.
